Taking Vietnam’s e-commerce “to the sea”

On December 4, the “Transboundary E-commerce Conference” with the theme “Reaching out to the sea” was first held in Vietnam.

The conference was organized by the Department of Trade Promotion (Ministry of Industry and Trade) in collaboration with Amazon Global Selling (AGS). Attending the conference were Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai, Director of Trade Promotion Department Vu Ba Phu, representatives of agencies, departments, strategic partners and representatives of AGS in Southeast Asia.

The Transboundary E-commerce Conference is the main AGS annual event in Asia, held in many countries in the region, to connect, provide basic knowledge and experience for sellers to be able to develop their network on e-commerce channels. In Vietnam, the Conference brought together nearly 2,000 sellers from various fields across the country to participate.

Speaking at the Conference, Director of AGS Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand Bernard Tay said that Vietnam is a country with potential for developing cross-border e-commerce, especially, Vietnam has a significant advantage in production, as well as a workforce with many young talents and a strong online community. Based on these factors, AGS will continue to invest in developing tools and services to assist Vietnamese sellers in reaching potential customers as well as boosting exports through online channels.

Under the 2020 strategy, AGS will increase support to sellers in Vietnam through strengthening the service provider ecosystem; promote the goods with strengths of sellers in Vietnam such as household products and kitchenware; handicrafts, textiles, footwear, consumer products...; continue to work closely with strategic partners in Vietnam such as Vietrade, T&T Group, IDEA, VECOM…

Director of Trade Promotion Department Vu Ba Phu highly appreciated cooperation activities with AGS. Mr. Vu Ba Phu said that these activities have contributed to Vietnam’s export turnover in general and the development of Vietnamese enterprises in particular. “The implementation of the strategic cooperation agreement will be a solid foundation for deeper and longer-term strategic plans between Vietrade and AGS”, emphasized Mr. Vu Ba Phu.

Also at the Conference, there was signature of Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Industry and Trade (the focal point is the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency) and Amazon (the focal point is Amazon Global Selling), marking a new step in cooperation between the two parties as well as efforts to support domestic businesses and sellers to boost sales and exports in 2020.

According to the content of the Memorandum, Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency and Amazon Global Selling will jointly implement the main cooperation programs such as Exporting via e-commerce, developing Vietnamese brands on Amazon, training Vietnamese human resources on e-commerce, displaying common booths…

The highlight of this event is the exhibition “One Village One Product”, where participants are immersed in a Vietnamese cultural space with many high-quality products made in Vietnam such as coffee, tea, textiles, handicrafts, health care, beauty, as well as traditional cultural products such as ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress), conical hats, and traditional musical instruments.

In addition, within the Conference, 6 basic and advanced sessions were held to provide useful information and discuss with international experts and salespeople about success on Amazon. Topics for each seminar range from account registration, Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), tax policy, advertising to sales suggestion seminar series. This is a good opportunity for sellers to expand their network and learn from their experience and develop sales and exports globally.
